HUNDREDS of car park spaces will remain unavailable at a train station car park whilst engineers carry out repairs to the structure.

The upper deck of Colchester North Station’s car park has been closed since September, when a small piece of concrete was found by a member of Greater Anglia staff.

It has meant that 216 spaces have been unavailable for more than three months at the facility, which normally has a capacity of 1,589 spaces on-site.

However, repairs are set to continue, and Greater Anglia has not yet been able to confirm for how much longer the car park will remain closed.

It is not believed the damage to the structure is linked to reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC), which has affected other buildings in Colchester.

A Greater Anglia spokesman said plenty of capacity remains on the ground floor and in the overflow carpark in Three Crowns Road.

He said: “The upper deck of Colchester station car park is currently closed while repairs are carried out.

“There is plenty of capacity for all users as the ground floor spaces and all other spaces remain available.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused while we review the appropriate steps necessary to reopen the upper deck.”
