THE Environment Agency has warned of minor flooding potentially affecting coastal areas of Essex on Christmas Day.
In a flood alert issued at 4.30pm today (Sunday), the agency said minor flooding could hit coastal roads and footpaths between 9am and 11am on Christmas Day.
The flood alert area covers the Essex coast from St Peters Flat to Shoebury, including Burnham-on-Crouch, South Woodham Ferrers, Hullbridge and the Crouch and Roach estuaries.
Tides are expected to be higher than usual, due to the forecast weather conditions.
Tide levels will be high at Battlesbridge, and Hullbridge riversides. Creeksea Ferry Road onto Wallasea Island may be flooded, a warning on gov.uk said.
The alert added: "The high tide tomorrow will reach the peak of the current cycle, and tides will fall away over the next few days.
"Take care on coastal roads and footpaths, and don't put yourself in unnecessary danger. We are monitoring the situation and not expecting it to escalate."
