COLCHESTER’S Iceni Women’s Rugby club have donated goods such as sanitary items, children’s toys, and home comforts to support women and children in refuge.
With many people struggling over the festive season, the Iceni Women’s Team felt it was important this year “to do more” and so along with the club shop RBX, began donating goods.
Next Chapter, a charity which provides free and confidential services to help people currently experiencing or previously experiencing domestic abuse, received the goods this Wednesday after weeks of collections at the club.
"Five big boxes" of warm winter clothes, children’s toys, essential sanitary items, and home comforts to women and children were packed in bags.
Zoe Goate, Women & Girls Lead at CRFC and co-manager of Iceni, explained how Next Chapter showcase “resilience and empathy” and that these are qualities which the women’s rugby club also upholds.
Zoe said: “We hope to continue building a relationship with Next Chapter to ensure women and families are not only safe at Christmas time but all year round.”
While Maggie Whiteman, safeguarding officer at the Colchester Rugby Football Club said: “Our Iceni Women’s Team are a great group of caring people, not only for each other but also for the wider community.”
“It’s a privilege to be associated with them.”
