A COLCHESTER school has collected hundreds of kilograms of items for the food bank ahead of one of the busiest times of year for the organisation.
Kelly Farness and her daughter Mya, 15, have been collecting for the food bank every festive season for five years.
Every year they ask for help in collecting food from their friends, family and the local community.
The mother and daughter charity duo deliver the donations to the food bank two weeks before Christmas to allow the food bank enough time to help lots of families over the festive period.
Kelly, who works at Willow Brook School, decided to ask the headteacher if the pupils would like to help in this year's collection.
Willow Brook School, in Barnardiston Road, helped to collect for the cause by donating food and drink items in exchange for their non-school-uniform day.
Willow Brook pupils managed to collect 130kg of food and Mya collected 120kg.
Together the total weight of food send to the food bank is a whopping 250kg.
Kelly said: "The community came together for such an amazing cause and it really was heart-warming.
"It really is an honour to be a part of the Willow Brook School and the community behind it.
"The amount of support that was given to our food bank appeal has been very overwhelming."
