TWO neighbouring Colchester music venues described as being at "the forefront of Colchester's music scene" have been nominated for a top prize.
Coda and Three Wise Monkeys, both in the High Street, have been shortlisted for Songs Behind the Music's Venue of the Year Award.
Three Wise Monkeys is heralded for staging everything from indie bands to rock karaoke, as well as well-known artists such as The Lottery Winners.
Coda, meanwhile, is beloved for its community feel, free events and high quality shows courtesy of touring and local artists.
Daniel Marshall, the owner of Songs Behind The Music, said either venue would be a worthy winner.
He said: "Both Coda and Three Wise Monkeys are fully deserving of their SBTM Venue of the Year nominations.
"The venues, at the forefront of Colchester's music scene, provide a vital place for upcoming local musicians to perfect their craft, whilst championing brilliant touring artists."
Alan Jones is the manager of Three Wise Monkeys' top floor venue.
Reacting to the nomination he said: "To be nominated for a Songs Behind The Music Award for venue of the year is absolutely amazing.
"It would of course be a dream to win it but we feel so grateful to even be considered and there are loads of other great venues in the running which we are big fans of.
"We pride ourselves on delivering the best live entertainment to the city's gig-goers and if nothing else this is recognition that we are hopefully doing something right."
Songs Behind the Music is a small but growing music platform full of interviews with both local and chart-topping artists.
Daniel added: "Songs Behind the Music is a rapidly growing music platform created and solely run by myself.
"In the 18 months since the page has been set up, we have supported a number of the industry's biggest names, and exciting upcomers, through live reviews and our unique interviews. "
Songs Behind the Music's unique interviews see artists name nine songs from different moments in their lives, such as songs which made them want to be a musician and songs which get them through hard times.
