Maldon family home targeted by armed masked crooks

Richard Huett was relaxing at the family home in Falcon Fields, Maldon, when it was targeted by thieves.

The 32-year-old had been sitting watching television when he heard a bang from outside.

After getting up to look out the dining room window, which has a view of the side of the house, he was confronted by four masked men.

They threatened him with a weapon before pushing his dad Alan's new motorcycle out the way and then stealing it.

Alan had bought the KTM dirt bike for £12,500 just two weeks before and had only ridden it twice.

Alan said: “They smashed through my garage door ripping it from the frame. My son said they appeared to have batons and crowbars.

“They managed to take the bike because I’d locked the bike up but not to the floor.

“My son called the police and was told they wouldn’t be able to get there.

“Then nothing, absolutely nothing. I expected someone to contact me, but they didn’t. No one had our contact details until I emailed them.”

Alan said he was disappointed with the response from the police after not hearing anything from them for weeks after the incident.

He wrote a letter to complain about the response from the police.

He said: “Two police constables turned up at my door two weeks later.

"They tried to say it had been actioned, but they didn’t communicate it to us.

“I think the whole thing was shockingly bad. If the police cars weren’t available then that’s the case, but the response and aftercare has been appalling and I felt it warranted a letter.”

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Officers received a report of a burglary at an address in Fambridge Road in Maldon at around 7pm on November 22.

“It was reported that a group of suspects entered the garage of the property and stole a motorbike, before driving away in a blue Land Rover.

“Whilst receiving the report, officers carried out several checks in the local area, including reviewing ANPR cameras to look for the suspect vehicle. This was unfortunately unsuccessful.

“Due to a lack of forensic and CCTV opportunities, the investigation has since been filed and the bike has not been located.

“Should further information come to light, this investigation could be reviewed.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact us, quoting reference number 1013 of 22 November.”
