NEW images have shown how a £64 million medical facility at Colchester Hospital is taking shape.

The hospital, on Turner Road, is currently in the midst of a massive project where a state-of-the-art elective orthopaedic centre is being built.

The photos show that the building has now been constructed and windows have been installed.

The exterior has a pink weather defence material coated across it.

Once all external and internal work is complete, the unit will be named after the late orthopaedic surgeon Dame Clare Marx.

She was the first-ever female president of the British Orthopaedic Association.

The building will boast eight theatres for surgeries, three wards, a physiotherapy gym, a day surgery recovery area, and an imaging department.

It is hoped that the complex will result in fewer operations being cancelled and shorter waiting times for patients.

Back in January, the site was home to an enormous crane which was used to move important modules into position.

The East Suffolk and North Essex Trust, which runs the hospital, hopes that the building will cater for patients who need operations in connection on bones, joints, and muscles.
