Following an extensive refurbishment, Sigma Sixth Tendring opened in West Clacton in 2020 at the Tendring Education Centre site. The 16-19 sixth form provision provides a genuine college experience for the young people in Tendring. It is an outstanding learning environment and has excellent enrichment facilities.

Sigma Sixth Tendring offers a range of A Level and Applied courses, including T-Levels. Students joining the college follow 3 A Level courses or equivalent, which they study for two years. In addition to the excellent in-house provision, the college also offers some students the chance to study at Essex University as part of the VI6 partnership; a unique collaboration between a selective number of local sixth form providers.

We spoke with Sarah McKarry, Head of College, to find out more about what the college has to offer. She explained that their vision is to provide a local offer that matches the needs of the young people living in the community and that students studying at Sigma Sixth Tendring received a personalised experience.

“Our vision is to create opportunities within and beyond the curriculum to enable students to become a well-rounded, confident, responsible and successful person, to achieve their full potential both academically and personally.

There is an expectation for students to work hard and get involved in enrichment activities, to develop their sense of self, to explore opportunities for future career pathways, leaving Sigma Sixth Tendring with a sense of achievement. Staff will help, advise and support, but at the end of the day, it is an individual's hard work, commitment and enthusiasm that will define their success.

Whatever path our students choose after Sigma Sixth Tendring, staff are here to ensure that they make the most of the opportunities available to help them succeed. Our pastoral care is second-to-none and whether a student decides on employment, an apprenticeship, or a place at university, our experienced staff can help them achieve their goals”.

Gazette:

Without doubt students applying for a place at Sigma Sixth Tendring can be confident that their time at the college will be rewarding and fulfilling and they will be provided with a learning environment that will enthuse, inspire, challenge and prepare them for the next stage of their life.
