A GROUP of DJs are set to host a night of soul, disco, funk, and jazz to support a fellow DJ from Colchester who is bravely battling cancer.

Dance For Malcolm is being held to raise money for Malcolm Green, who is sadly fighting prostate cancer.

Andy Chinery, 65, who is better known as veteran DJ and promoter, Andre Chinzano, is helping to put on the fundraising event at Roberts Bar, in Vineyard Street, on December 9.

Malcolm, 65, also known as DJ MG Jazz, has been a DJ for more than 40 years.

Andy remembers meeting the brilliant individual at the Embassy Suite in 1978.

He said: “My friendship with Malcolm goes back to The Embassy Suite in Colchester in 1978, we have a history of promoting and DJ’ing events in Colchester.

“Malcolm is a lovely guy, a fantastic dancer, he taught salsa dancing, and is an all-round general nice guy.

“He has been very unwell with prostate cancer for a few years.

“There was a party on Saturday, and the three of us, me, Jimmi Dixon, Craig Royal came up with it.

“I woke up Sunday morning and thought we have the power to put on a fundraiser for him."

Andy says Malcolm is “very thankful” for this event which will raise money to make his life more comfortable during his fight with the horrific illness.

The event costs £10 and tickets can be purchased on the door, where the event’s organisers will play throughout the event such as Andre, Jimmi Dixon, Craig Royal, DJ Grumpy Brown, Mick Tuttlebee, and more.

To further raise funds for Malcolm there will be an auction which several record industry members have donated items for it such as Brian Power from Soul House Music.

Andy said: “We’re leaving our egos at the door.

“The owner of Roberts has kindly offered the venue free of charge.

“It’s going to be a very uplifting event and the response has been fantastic, we all help each other, we’ve been DJs for years and we’ve been friends’ years.”

The event will run from 4pm till 2am.
