COLCHESTER Council is encouraging the residents of Greenstead to have its say on a new hub which is part of a £18.2 million initiative.

The council is urging the people of Greenstead to share their views on its forthcoming plan to revitalise the area with a community hub.

The multi-use community hub is set to be built in the future and it comes as part of the Heart of Greenstead Project’s first phase which aims to offer residents a range of services and amenities.

In August 2022, Colchester Council was awarded with £18.2 million in funding by the UK government.

This scheme will see Greenstead receive a new community centre, doctors surgery and pharmacy, a library, housing office, pre-school, community café, and community workspace, all within the first phase of the project.

It is hoped that this first stage of the scheme will be completed by March 2026.

The council now wants residents to have their say when it comes to the community hub via an online survey or through in-person engagement events.

Natalie Sommers, portfolio holder for communities at Colchester Council commented on the project.

She said: “In collaboration with our valued partners and the Greenstead community, we're dedicated to working hand in hand, ensuring that residents’ lives are improved, and the neighbourhood thrives.

“Together, we’re creating a stronger, more vibrant community where local voices and aspirations play a central role in shaping a better future for Greenstead.”

The council is working closely with the organisation Community360 (C360) and the NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board for this much needed feedback.

Tracy Rudling, CEO at C360 is hoping residents complete the survey as it could help shape the outcome of the project.

She said: “I would urge anyone living in Greenstead to complete the survey.

“Community engagement is vital to the success of the project.

“This is your chance to help shape and create an exciting new multiuse hub which will enhance and better support residents’ living in Greenstead.”

There are survey engagement events being held at Greenstead Community Centre on November 15 from 4pm, November 20 from 9am, November 22 at 3pm, November 27 from 9am, and November 25 from noon.

They will also be at Hawthorne Surgery on November 20 from 10am, Enoch House on November 23 from 10am and at the Divine Assembly Ministry on November 29 and December 6 from 11am.
