A COLCHESTER salon owner has been left feeling upset after her shop window was cracked after a gang of yobs launched an unprovoked attack.

Joanne Naylor, owner of Hidden Beauty & Aesthetics, in Barrack Street, Colchester, arrived at her shop on Saturday morning to find her front window had been cracked.

In CCTV footage of the attack, three young men can be seen walking past the salon during the early hours before one of the hoodlums appears to kick-out at the property.

The ordeal has understandably left the family upset, including Mrs Naylor's children, who discovered the damage with her.

Gazette:

“It’s cracked our whole window, it didn’t smash through but it’s not going to take a lot more for it to go through,” said Mrs Naylor.

“It was early hours of Saturday morning, about 2.17 am, so after a night out in town basically.

“I’ve gone down to other local businesses, including the YMCA further down the road to ask for their CCTV.”

Mrs Naylor has since posted the footage on social media with the hope of tracking down the culprits and also informed the police.

She said: “I very much doubt there will be [progress]. To be honest, it would need someone to hand them in on a plate. I doubt anything will come from it.

“I only live around the corner from the salon so I’m aware the area isn’t the best at the moment.

“I mean, the street that I live on, there was a dispersal order on it last year, so I know the area is bad and it was always a concern, but I’m not somebody that has enemies."

Mrs Naylor has been aware of the dangers of vandalism and break-ins since opening her salon last September, investing in protective shutters shortly after.

Since the incident Mrs Naylor has had a lot of support from other businesses in the area.

“There are always people like that, if they have got CCTV, they’re going to help you," she added.

“All the other shops are very helpful. It’s just whether you have got good enough CCTV.”
