GREGGS will not open its newest branch in Colchester for at least another month, a spokesman for the retailer has said, days after it was announced a store would open this weekend.
The bakery chain is one of several retailers set to be part of the Northern Gateway leisure park, the opening of which has been delayed by almost a year.
Earlier this week, a spokesman for Greggs said: “Greggs is due to open a new shop in Colchester’s Northern Gateway this weekend.
“We can share further information over the next few days.”
When asked to provide more details, Greggs then said in a statement on Friday that the store – which would be its sixth in Colchester – will not open for another several weeks.
A spokesman said: “Greggs is due to open a new shop in Colchester’s Northern Gateway in early December.
"We will be able to share further details with you closer to the opening.”
It was hoped the Northern Gateway Leisure Park would open this autumn, but the project has been marred by delays.
Turnstone Estates, the developers behind Northern Gateway, said last month the complex will not open until next summer.
Fast-food outlet Wendy’s is currently the only retailer to have opened on the site.
