COLCHESTER residents could be in line for grants to help make their homes more energy efficeint.

Residents can benefit from the Energy Company Obligation 4 (ECO4) and the Home Upgrade Grant Phase 2 (HUG2) schemes.

The ECO4 fund is a grant scheme for homeowners, private rental sector tenants, and landlords, for properties fuelled by all energy types.

The main purpose of the ECO4 scheme, which runs until 2026, is to install energy saving measures in properties with an energy efficiency rating of bands D to G.

There is a £31,000 total household income criterion but this may not apply if you receive a qualifying benefit or have a qualifying health condition.

HUG2 is a new scheme for off-gas grid properties, households that do not use gas as their main heating source, as these properties are most likely to be hit hardest by increased energy bills.

Insulation, solar PV, boiler upgrades or replacements, air source heat pumps, and double glazing are various measures for properties that Colchester City Council has identified for potential and automatic qualification.

Andrea Luxford Vaughan, portfolio holder for planning, environment and sustainability, said: "We strongly urge eligible residents to explore these programs and make the most of the support available."
