Wake Cup: A Little Slice of the Community

Wake Cup- a simple coffee shop amidst the hustle and bustle of Chingford High Street- reopened during mid 2020. The pandemic saw many elderly people isolated and alone, predominantly due to an inability and ill-understanding of the evolving technology which kept us together, despite the lockdown. However, Wake Cup, a newly renovated coffee shop at the heart of Chingford, defeated this problem with an iron fist!

During the post pandemic world, human interaction and friendship was at an all-time low. This lack of communication saw a drastic rise in mental illness, not only for young people but also for the elderly. But the warming and enriching impact of this simple Café conquered the issue. People often underestimate the power of the coffee bean- not only for its caffeinating effect, but also its ability to promote conversation and human interaction...

Sarah Harris,74, a daily customer and coffee ‘enthusiast’ claims that “This place is full of old folks like me! But that’s what I like about it- it’s a warm, kind and inviting atmosphere with lovely cakes.... In a way it saved me from my isolation during the pandemic,”. Many other would also wholeheartedly agree like John Moran, 68, who claims that “It's a routine at this point: I wake up, walk to the Café and spend meaningful time with others. It gets me out of bed in the morning!”

It's simple layout and enthusiastic customers and waiters/waitresses create the perfect combination for an enriching morning. Their menu is diverse and tasty and will be sure to keep you coming back for more.

So, if you’re ever in need of a nice slice of cake or a warm autumnal beverage, why not come down to Wake Cup. You never know what lifelong friendships might be made there...
