A COLCHESTER restaurant has been named amongst the top 60 places to get a roast dinner in the UK.

Family-run restaurant and pub The Three Horseshoes is located in Fordham.

Online publisher Muddy Stilettos compiled the list, in which it highlighted that the Three Horseshoes was awarded two rosettes from the AA Restaurant Guide.

Its sample Sunday menu includes roast options such as sirloin of Essex beef with horseradish and roast loin of Dingley Dell pork with burnt apple.

There is also a quinoa and chickpea nut roast with burnt apple.

Muddy Stilettos said: "The Three Horseshoes in Fordham is a family-run pub and restaurant awarded two rosettes from the AA Restaurant Guide, and the place to head for an Essex Sunday roast – you can choose to have one course, two or three, or even add nibbles and a cheeky cocktail to the mix.

"Our eye’s on the citrus-cured chalk stream trout with elderflower cordial, green strawberry, radish and marigold to start.

"That needs to be followed by roast sirloin of Essex beef with all the trimmings. Tasty and hearty fodder to go back to time and time again."

Other Essex venues to make the list where the Pig & Whistle Restaurant, Chelmsford, and The Windmill Chatham Green.

Muddy Stilettos said of the Pig & Whistle: "After a delicious Sunday lunch without the little ones? Chelmsford’s adult-focused Pig & Whistle restaurant is where you want to head, as it caters for those age 11 and above.

"The Sunday offering costs £28 for two courses or £36 for three, with the menu something dreams are most definitely made of."

Speaking about The Windmill it added: "Tucked away in the Essex countryside is The Windmill Chatham Green, a charming dog-friendly pub and restaurant run by Michelin Star chef Tom Clarke and partner Nancy Witte.

"Their Sunday lunch menu (served 12pm-3:30pm) gives you a choice of almonds(£4.50), olives (£4.50) or seaweed and sea salt focaccia with Marmite butter to start (£5), followed by one (£36), two (£32) or three (£38) courses."
