A VILLAGE has faced flooding following heavy rainfall leading to a river bursting its banks.

The River Stour burst its banks in Dedham leaving fields, car parks and paths submerged by water.

There has been widespread flooding around the UK following downpours from Storm Babet.

Warnings last week had suggested flooding of homes and businesses in the village was likely.

The Environment Agency told Sky News that about 1,250 properties in England have been flooded while an estimated 30,000 properties have been protected from flooding.

The Gazette previously reported The Met Office had updated its yellow weather warning for rain which covers the whole of Essex.

This warning was in place from midnight on Friday, October 20 to 6am on Saturday, October 21.

Unfortunately, it is not the first time that Dedham has found itself in this predicament.

In 2021, residents rallied together to provide sandbanks for the former Boathouse Restaurant which faced being “washed away” by flooding.

Much like now, the River Stour had burst its banks, causing the restaurant now known as The Boatyard, situated on the river, to put a call out on social media asking the community for sandbags to keep the water at bay.

This flooding also led to fields being submerged by water.
