PART of the huge re-development of the former Debenhams in Colchester will see it turned into a mini golf course.

A Putt Putt Noodle golf course will operate on the ground floor alongside an arcade which will also spill over onto the first floor.

The full blueprints for the site in Culver Street West which has been disused since May 2021 were approved by Colchester Council in June.

The site will also have a go-karting track, Boom Battle Bar and trampoline park.

Colchester already boasts a Putt in the Park mini golf course in Castle Park and another under the Puttstars brand is opening at Northern Gateway.

So what can you expect from the adventure golf chain Putt Putt Noodle?

The business is an Asian inspired adventure golf course where you can also enjoy food.

Its website says: “Come on a journey to the far east, experience immersive mini golf like never before. Enjoy exotic drinks, sublime sushi and authentic games you have never heard of - This is no ordinary place.”

At its three existing sites there are three courses to choose from.

You can play two courses £10 an adult or three courses from £13 an adult.

Prices are more expensive at peak times.

The Dragon Quest which is themed on the Great Wall of China and has nine holes.

There is also the Crouching Tiger which is set in a Cambodian bamboo jungle with a 3m Buddah and life size pandas and tigers.

The final course to choose from is Cherry Blossom, which as the name suggests is a course filled with the famous tree alongside water features.

Customers can book online or just walk in on the day however there is no guarantee you can play when you want if you don’t book in advance.

Courses take between 20 and 30 minutes to complete depending on how busy it is.

Putt Putt Noodle offers games for all ages up to 7.30pm when the venues become adult only.

You can take drinks around the courses with you but all food must be consumed in the restaurant area.

Its venues also offer food with sushi dishes, donburi bowls, poke bowls and ramen dishes available.

For people after something sweet there are mochi and dorayaki on offer.

Putt Putt Noodle already has sites in Norwich, Poole and Telford.

Review on TripAdvisor describe it as a "magical activity" and "a great little place to have fun for all ages."

Planners were told in June they could begin to get the vision in motion after being given permission to change the use of the site from retail to leisure.

But they have been told the go-karting course cannot be open outside the hours of 9am and 8pm to ensure residents do not suffer from extra noise.
