A ROOM in a ship named after a nationally beloved biologist caught alight this morning, in Harwich, resulting in emergency services attending the scene.
Earlier today at 8.22am, fire engines were called to a fire on board of the RRS Sir David Attenborough, at Harwich International Port.
A spokesman for the British Antarctic Survey confirmed the ship was involved in the incident, however, the situation has been resolved.
They said: "The fire service responded quickly and professionally to an incident on board the RRS Sir David Attenborough this morning, October 14.
"This is standard procedure and the emergency services confirmed the safe resolution of the situation, which was quickly dealt with by the vessel’s emergency response team and no-further support was required.
"All crew and passengers are well and no-one required medical assistance."
The Essex County Fire and Rescue Service confirmed earlier today that firefighters attended a "small fire in an electrical room on a ship".
Upon arrival at the ship, firefighters "confirmed the fire was out" and "inspected the area to make sure it was safe."
Sir David Attenborough is widely known as a biologist and documentary maker.
The RRS Sir David Attenborough is a polar research ship which makes trips to Antarctica. It returned from its last expedition earlier this year on May 30.
The East Of England Ambulance Service has confirmed it was "alerted to this incident, but there was no need to send any ambulance resource."
