NATIONAL Highways has announced its October schedule of closures set to hit the A12, with a new road layout set to come into force as the £37million resurfacing project continues.

It is now a year since the works began, and although the original date of completion was set as February 2024, it has since been pushed back to spring.

Despite the delays, National Highways has said the work is “progressing well”, with the northbound carriageway nearly fully reconstructed and resurfaced.

Overnight closures will continue as the organisation moves into the next phase of work, however, which involves rebuilding lanes two and three of the southbound carriageway.

The process of moving the A12 contraflow lanes will begin on Monday, October 9, meaning barriers will be adjusted and lines repainted to make sure the road layout is clear for drivers.

Overnight closures on the A12 northbound carriageway from Marks Tey to Stanway will begin on Monday, October 9, and the closures will remain in place every weeknight on that week from 9pm until 5am.

The diversion route will direct traffic from junction 25 Marks Tey, along London Road through Copford and Stanway, before allowing traffic to rejoin the A12 at junction 26.

On Saturday, October 14, the northbound carriageway will be closed from junction 23 Kelvedon to junction 26 Stanway.

The diversion route will result in traffic exiting at junction 19 Boreham before travelling along the A130, A131, A120, London Road, and Halstead Road; the traffic will then rejoin the A12 at junction 26.

Closures of the southbound carriageway will come into place later in the month and run into November.

On Monday, October 23 and Tuesday, October 24, the southbound carriageway will close between junction 26 Stanway and junction 25 Marks Tey.

A diversion will take traffic off the A12 at the Ardleigh Crown Interchange on junction 29, directing it down Ipswich Road and onto Cowdray Avenue, before heading along London Road and returning to the A12 at junction 25 Marks Tey.

On Sunday 22, Wednesday 25, Thursday 26, Friday 27, Sunday 29, Monday 30, Tuesday 31, and Tuesday November 1, a different diversion will be in place.

On those dates, diversions will re-route traffic from Stanway along Halstead Road and London Road before drivers rejoin the A12 at junction 25 Marks Tey.
