A GIRL has been left with serious injuries following an incident which closed the A12 in Colchester.

The A12 was closed from junction 27 to junction 28 just after 5pm yesterday, causing delays of up to 60 minutes for some drivers.

Police have since confirmed a person has suffered “serious but non-life-threatening injuries”.

The casualty was taken to the hospital, where they remain for treatment.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We were called to reports of concerns for the welfare of a person near the A12 at Colchester, shortly before 5.15pm on Monday, September 18.

“Essex Police put a road closure in place while this matter was dealt with.

“One casualty suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital for treatment.”

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "One ambulance, one ambulance officer vehicle and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were called to the A12 near Colchester yesterday, responding to calls concerned for the welfare of a teenage girl.

"One girl was transported to Colchester Hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries."
