A SUPERMARKET has been allowed to keep “unsightly” barriers which protect it against ram-raiders.

N K Supermarket installed the barriers as a defence mechanism against would-be thieves trying to force their way into the shop in Turner Road, Colchester.

It then applied for planning permission from Colchester Council retrospectively to keep them in place, as well as a container at the property’s rear.

Residents complained to the town hall how the barriers were “unsightly” and claimed they encouraged customers to park in front of the shop.

However, Colchester Council approved the application.
