BOSSES of a popular pizza chain in Colchester have said the “difficult decision” was made to close its city centre store due to “the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis”.
Pizza Hut, which had a delivery shop in North Station Road, has shut its doors for good.
The shop has been a part of the city centre for many years and was the third Pizza Hut in Colchester after the restaurant in Turner Rise and one in the Maltings.
The international chain confirmed the closure was due to the effects of the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis.
A spokesperson from Pizza Hut UK and Europe said: “We can confirm that our North Station Road Hut in Colchester is now permanently closed.
“Responding to an ever-shifting consumer landscape, our business and operating models are evolving.
“All hospitality businesses have needed to respond to these exceptionally challenging times, and as a result of the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis, coupled with additional headwinds facing our sector, the difficult decision was made to close this store.
“We are confident in the ongoing success of one of Britain's favourite businesses and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“Our customers can continue to enjoy their favourite slice of pizza from our King Edward Way branch, or order from our website at pizzahut.co.uk.”
The former Pizza Hut was replaced with a Caprinos Pizza, which opened last week.
