A 36-year-old man who paid for the services of an escort and stalked her after their relationship soured will be sentenced in October after being convicted by a jury.

Naveen Beefnah had booked the woman for a “girlfriend experience” and took her for a week’s holiday in Greece during which he paid for her company, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

However, one night during the holiday the woman was too tired to have sex and that caused an argument between them.

“He was paying for a girlfriend experience and that sort of put an end to the relationship,” said Edward Renvoize, prosecuting.

“When they got back to the UK relations were very frosty between them. The prosecution says what come next was a campaign of stalking, harassment directed at her.”

He said Beefnah had then traced members of the woman’s family, including her mother, father, and sister, and suggested they asked her what she did for a living.

He also sent the woman emails pretending to be clients who wanted to book her services and he also pretended to be a former client saying he had HIV and she would need to get checked.

Mr Renvoize said Beefnah accepted tracking down members of the woman’s family after things soured between them but said he did it to stop her allegedly threatening him and asking for money.

The court heard that the woman hadn’t contacted the police immediately to report Beefnah’s behaviour and had tried to pacify him before blocking him.

Beefnah of Victory Place, West Mersea, denied stalking the woman between September 28 and October 20 2020 but was convicted by a jury on Friday.

He will be sentenced in October after a pre-sentence report has been prepared on him.
