A POLICE investigation into a crash which saw a woman and a child airlifted to hospital with serious injuries has been stood down.

Emergency services responded to reports of a serious collision involving three vehicles, including a campervan, on the London-bound carriageway of the A12 between Colchester United’s JobServe Community Stadium and the Avenue of Remembrance on-slip at about 9.30am on Monday, August 7.

A woman and a child were airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, with serious but not life-threatening injuries after being rescued from a campervan by fire crews from two fire stations.

Essex Police launched an investigation following the serious collision, which closed both carriageways of the A12 for several hours, but more than two weeks later the force has now confirmed no further police action is to be taken.

Police officers were joined at the scene by five East of England Ambulance Service vehicles, including its hazardous area response team, and firefighters from Colchester and Wivenhoe fire stations.

Two Essex and Herts Air Ambulances also landed on the A12’s southbound carriageway between junctions 28 and 27 before flying the two casualties to hospital.

Police officers have since confirmed their injuries, while serious, are not considered life-threatening.
