A PENSIONER has been left with lifechanging injuries after being hurt during a collision in a supermarket car park.

The pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, sustained several fractures when she became involved in a collision with a car on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the car park of Waitrose in St Andrews Gardens, Colchester, at about 2.50pm.

The shopper was then airlifted to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridgeshire with injuries described as lifechanging.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Officers have located the vehicle involved, a silver Kia Venga, and a man in his eighties is assisting with the investigation.”

The incident came as paramedics were at the scene dealing with a less serious incident where a person was injured in a fall.

They were made aware of the collision and attended immediately, also dispatching the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance, three ambulances and an ambulance officer vehicle.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said the collision victim was taken to Addenbrookes Hospital with a “serious injury”.

The shop was kept open to customers but part of the car park was cordoned off, though customers could still park in the remaining spaces.

A Waitrose spokesman said: “We’re thankful for the emergency services who responded immediately, as well as the quick actions of our partners.

“Our thoughts are with the individual at this time.”

Police officers have launched an appeal for shoppers who witnessed the collision to get in touch as they continue to probe what happened.

“If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us,” added the police spokesman.

“You can let us know by submitting a report on our website or by using our online live chat service available Monday to Friday.”

Those who can help the police are encouraged to call 101 and quote incident 871 of August 19.
