AN independent coffee chain is set to open its doors to its latest shop in Colchester after being in the pipeline for a “long time”.
TOAST has announced the eagerly anticipated date to open its fifth location when it comes to Britain’s first city.
TOAST Colchester, located in Culver Square, will open its doors to the public on Sunday, September 10.
The Colchester coffee house will be the biggest branch for the business, which began in Braintree.
The brand's first coffee house opened in February 2020 and was started by pals Louis McNamee, Daniel Pearson and Robert Ely.
It also has shops in Chelmsford, Sudbury and Witham.
The Culver Square store will be spread over two floors, where customers will be able to sip and savour their coffee in TOAST’s trademark contemporary but quirky environment with its comfy seating and a laid-back vibe.
There is also an outdoor seating area, first floor balcony and workstations.
Toast has been a hit since it opened in Braintree and has expanded its empire along the A12 corridor.
Serving a menu of hot and cold drinks, milkshakes, toasties and sandwiches, TOAST says it is a “proud supporter of local, working with other independent businesses to supply the freshest and highest-quality ingredients for their menu”.
The business has also made the headlines for its proactive stance of making positive change in relation to the environment, using 100 per cent compostable paper cups and 100 per cent reusable cups in all their branches, as well as ensuring zero of their waste goes to landfill.
Mr Ely said: “We’re very excited to get this branch open, as it’s been in the pipeline for such a long time.
“It will be a vibrant addition to the city, especially in Culver Square alongside the possible redevelopment of Debenhams.
“Whilst we look may look like 'just a coffee shop' on the outside, we’re different on the inside, championing local and supporting others, and doing the right thing when it comes to the environment.
“We’re looking forward to meeting everyone in Colchester and getting behind that message, getting involved in the community and doing what we can to help.”
