Wilkin and Sons has made Tiptree a household name by producing a range of delicious preserves and spreads.

But it also offers more than meets the eye.

The historic business has been farming in Tiptree since 1757 and the company has a history of making products since 1885.

Despite being best known for its fruity conserves, the farm produces a range of products which are less predictable.

Below is a list of some of the unexpected products sold by the Tiptree manufacturer.

Strawberry conserve with champagne

Gazette:

The classic favourite of strawberry conserves with a posh twist including champagne.

The strawberry conserve is one of Tiptree’s most famous products, including fruit grown and produced on the farm in Tiptree.

The product description states: “Our scrumptious Strawberry Conserve is a classic and a favourite in the Tiptree range. The addition of champagne means you can celebrate breakfast in style.”

Manuka active 10+ honey

Gazette:

Produced in New Zealand and costing £17.99 for 240g, its clear this product is on the high end of the scale for the manufacturer.

Manuka honey is produced in New Zealand by bees feeding on wild Manuka bushes in the north and south of the island.

In the product description, it said: “’Active’ Manuka has strong anti-bacterial properties and can be rated as 5+, 10+, 15+, etc.

“The higher the rating, the greater the anti-bacterial effect of the honey. In addition it has recently been found that there is a specific product in Manuka called Leptosperin that is unique to the honey and can be used as a confirmation of authenticity.

“At Tiptree we have always had every batch of Manuka honey tested for activity and, since February 2017, for Leptosperin, by a UKAS accredited laboratory. We only release product for sale once these tests are completed satisfactorily.”

Tiptree quite hot tomato ketchup

Gazette:

This unique tomato ketchup includes chillies, spices and chilli powder, making it “quite hot”.

The manufacturer has a range of sauces including barbeque, brown sauce, hot mango and mustard sauce with honey.

The ‘quite hot’ ketchup has more of a sense of mystery compared to the others.

The description paints the picture: “How hot? Quite hot. Our special tomato ketchup, made using the finest Mediterranean plum tomatoes, with added chillies and spices.”

Tiptree Hurricane Gin

Gazette:

Alongside a delicious range of gin, rum and vodkas which feature fruits grown in Tiptree, is the Tiptree Hurricane Gin.

Many of the alcohols feature Tiptree-grown fruits, with this particular gin featuring Tiptree’s own blood orange marmalade.

The small-batch gin is distilled in Essex, created as a partnership between Wilkin and Sons and the RAF Association.

A minimum of £2 for each bottle sold is donated to help provide life-changing support for RAF personnel, veterans and their families.

Tiptree candles

Gazette:

Homeware isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Wilkin and Sons, but the company sells a range of scented reed diffusers and candles.

Scents include lemon curd, little scarlet, gingerbread jam and more.

In the description for the candles, it said: “Tiptree Natural Wax Candles are designed and hand-crafted in England.
