A GENEROUS housebuilder is upskilling construction workers with an innovative new scheme.

Hopkins Homes, which builds homes across East Anglia and currently has developments in Colchester, West Bergholt, and Mistley, has launched a new, free training programme through its Hopkins Homes Academy.

The firm is offering the courses, which will provide qualifications and certificates, to its own colleagues and its contractors, suppliers, and partners.

Quality assurance boss Shane Vinyard said: “For many years, we have been tackling a significant skills shortage across the engineering and construction sectors.

“We believe our role in supporting skills, jobs and professional development extends beyond our own team.

“We hope the ‘Skills Bootcamp’ will go some way to addressing the skills shortage and supporting workers with additional qualifications throughout our region.”

The programme is backed by training provider Construction Skills People, which said it is “delighted that Hopkins Homes is taking a lead to improve skills in construction across East Anglia”.

A spokesman added: “Construction, groundworkers, and engineers often complete different qualifications at their own cost, and in a piecemeal approach.

“We look forward to working with a range of companies and people through the course.”
