AN incredible sibling duo are set to travel thousands of miles across the world to take part in a championship obstacle race.

Harry and Sophie Jeffrey, from Colchester, will soon be jetting off to the Bahamas for the Spartan Kids World Championships.

Spartan Race event consist of a series of obstacle races which all vary in difficulty.

For the first time ever, Spartan is venturing into the Caribbean archipelago of The Bahamas, where kids from around the globe will compete.

The pair have been doing Obstacle Course Racing since six years old, after being inspired by dad Stuart.

He said: “OCR has been around in the UK for the last ten to 15 years and Harry and Sophie got into it because of me.

“I was overweight and don’t like the gym, so a friend of mine recommended OCR.

“I started park runs and trained for a nuclear race, they both watched me compete and it grew from there.

“Harry has been all over it since and then Sophie watched him and got involved too.”

British Obstacle Sports (BOS) is the national governing body for obstacle course racing and ninja sport in the United Kingdom.

BOS is set to apply to become an officially recognised sport and receive funding to be added to the Olympics.

Stuart said: “For a dad all I have ever wanted is for the kids to be happy, and I always wanted them to be involved in sport.

“With them getting involved in something like this, they could be the perfect age to get into the Olympics one day.”

The family are heading out to the Bahamas on August 18 for a short trip before taking part in the race on August 26.

Stuart said: “It will be a nice holiday before and to end it with the championships.

“Last year in Florida Harry got second and made history by being the first British male athlete to stand on a Spartan Kids World Championship podium.

“We are hoping to go one better this year.

“Both are in the nine to 11 category, with girls going first.

“They have both been training for months and we all can’t wait.”
