A CELEBRATED historical fiction author is set to enthral crowds when the Colchester Roman Festival returns to the city.
Over the course of next weekend, history-lovers will enjoy food and drink and entertainment dating from more than 1,500 years ago.
History buffs will be able to hear from Lindsey Davis best known for her murder mystery series Falco Mysteries and the spin-off series Flavia Alba.
Davis’ novels are set during the reigns of Roman Emperors Vespasian and Domitian, and they have received praise due to their historical accuracy and depiction of Roman life during the era.
The award-winning writer will appear at the festival, which is taking place in lower Castle Park next weekend between 10.30am and 5pm.
The two-day, family-friendly event aims to promote Roman Britain’s history and highlights Colchester ties to the time period.
Davis will take to the Book Tent at 2pm on Saturday July 29 and offer festival attendees the opportunity to learn about her creative process, behind-the-scenes stories, and how history helps shape the novels she writes.
The author will also sign copies of her latest novel, Fatal Legacy, as well as other books she has written.
Speaking about appearing at this year’s festival, the published author said: “I’m really looking forward to the Colchester Roman Festival.
“I heard a lot about its success last year and want to see for myself.
“I’ll be talking about my latest book in the Flavia Albia series. An unpaid bar bill leads her into investigating very complicated relationships as she tries to establish whether somebody is a slave or free.”
Alongside Davis’s talk and book signing, the attending crowds will be able to watch exhilarating reenactments, live demonstrations, workshops, and view archaeological exhibitions at the festival.

Prices start at £8 per day for adults or £12 for an adult weekend pass, there are also ticket options for children and family passes available via the website.
