MORE than 400 homes have been left without power after an unplanned outage.

UK Power Networks confirmed it is investigating an unplanned power cut in the CO6 2, CO9 2, and CO9 3 postcode areas.

The affected area includes Chappel, Wakes Colne, Earls Colne, and Colne Engaine.

A statement on the UK Power Networks website says: "We're investigating a high voltage overhead electricity line fault which has caused a power cut in the local area.

"We became aware of this power cut at 3.18pm. We’re sorry for any disruption this may have caused you.

"We didn’t know in advance there would be a power cut, but now that we know, our teams will do everything they can to get your power back quickly."

Engineers have restored power to 115 properties, but they remain on-site as they attempt to restore power to more than 300 further homes.

A further update said: "We've remotely diverted electricity around the faulty part of the network, restoring power to 115 properties. This leaves 301 properties affected by the overhead network fault."

It is currently estimated the issue will be resolved between 6pm and 7pm today.
