INSPIRATIONAL learners from Colchester have been recognised as an adult education provider held an annual awards ceremony.
ACL Essex has celebrated its Colchester-based learners with awards ranging from Personal Growth to Breaking Barriers.
The ceremony took place on July 12 at the Central Baptist Church in Chelmsford, with more than 100 people in attendance.
The event shines a light on those who have achieved outstanding things during their time at ACL Essex.
Awards which were handed out on the night include the Extra Mile Award to celebrate learners who go out of their way to help their peers, and the Whistle While You Work award, given to learners who are a pleasure to have in the classroom.
In total, 37 awards were handed to ACL Essex learners, staff and apprentices.
One of which was Heidi Withnell from Colchester.
Heidi won the Digital Award, which celebrates the use of technology or online resources to improve teaching and learning and make classes more enjoyable.
Heidi’s nominee said: “She has fantastic digital skills and shares these with her classmates.
“She works very hard as a volunteer, supporting two or three learners at once to help them achieve their potential.”
Another success story from Colchester was Jordan Cardy, who won the Community Support Award, which recognises people who make a huge difference to the lives of those around them.
“I did work really hard. I’m definitely proud,” he said when receiving the award.
Nathan Cording, also from Colchester, won the Making A Difference award, given to learners who have been seen to make a difference to those around them or within the community.
Nathan said: “In class, I like to help others. I’m really proud of the award.”
Mia Stapleton and Caroline Driscoll, also based in Colchester, won the Learning in the Workplace and Breaking Barriers awards respectively.
ACL Essex principal Lisa Jarentowski said: “It’s a pleasure to welcome learners from across Essex to celebrate their outstanding achievements.
“Our staff and learners work so hard to reach their goals and I’m so glad we get the opportunity to recognise them for that.
“We’re so proud to award the exceptional people who come through our doors.”
