Colchester Nannas Yarn Barn seeks to relocate business

On Monday evening, Fiona Ellerker of Nannas Yarn Barn in Red Lion Yard apologised on social media as she announced the shop's sudden closure.

Fiona opened the shop in January 2020 and has had lots of success selling homemade clothing and hosting workshops and classes.

The shop also sells a variety of wools, crochet items and knitting equipment.

The owner is now looking for a new premises to move to after being forced to shut up shop due to "unforeseen circumstances".

She said: “It’s been a shock, but we are going to be opening in a new premises.

“I’m trying to continue with classes because I have a lot of people who have paid for them and I don’t like letting people down.

“We will be continuing with what we have booked in so far.

“I’m looking for somewhere like a coffee shop to continue with classes in the meantime, so people know we haven’t abandoned them because we haven’t.

“We’re going to be fine, we have to be positive.

“It’s just a case of getting a new shop set up so fingers crossed we will be back soon.

“When I find a new base, we will continue from there.

“I don’t know what will happen with our shop in Red Lion Yard but I don’t think it will be empty for long.”

Fiona, who didn't say why the shop in Red Lion Yard has had to close, now hopes to secure a new base as soon as possible.

She has a place in mind to continue with her business but is still keeping an eye out for other options in case it doesn’t work out.

She said: “It doesn’t help with being a small and independent business - there’s not much help out there for businesses like mine.

“You haven’t seen the end of us yet.

“We put up dates for children’s classes and we had so many people inquiring about them so we hope to still continue with that in the future.”
