COLCHESTER will continue to celebrate its city status this weekend with a Festival of Fun.

The event, which will run at Colchester Sports Park on Saturday and then the Leisure World facility on Sunday, is part of Colchester’s Year of Celebration and will host family friendly activities – including a special dog show.

The Saturday event will offer participants the chance to try out the sports park’s one-mile cycle track and explore the 76 acres of open space surrounding the facility.

As well as inflatables and trampolines being available to youngsters for the event, dog owners can pay £2 to enter their pets into the dog show where awards for golden oldies and waggiest tail will be up for grabs.

On Sunday, Activa Gym will offer access to its facilities free of charge, with karate demonstrations, soft play, and football darts also taking place.

The council’s portfolio holder for leisure, culture, and heritage, Michelle Burrows, said the weekend would allow people to see the facilities they have on their doorstep in Colchester.

She said: “With lots of different activities for all ages, it’s a great way to show people everything our sports facility in the city have to offer, as well as encouraging people to get active.

"It promises to be a brilliant weekend.”
