A MAN has died at the scene of a serious crash in Colchester last week, the ambulance service has confirmed.

Emergency services were called to Greenstead roundabout last Friday morning, after a crash near the junction with Avon Way.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene, with the notorious roundabout closed on its north and east side between St Andrew’s Avenue and Clingoe Hill for several hours.

Officers, who described it as a “serious crash”, urged drivers to “avoid the area if possible”.

Now, the ambulance service has confirmed a man died after suffering a "medical episode" whilst behind the wheel.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 9.45am on Friday, June 9, to a road traffic collision on the Greenstead roundabout in Colchester.

"Three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance officer vehicle and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulances were sent to the scene.

"Sadly, despite the efforts of the medical team, an adult man, who had appeared to have a medical episode while driving, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"An adult woman, who was suffering with neck pain, was transported to Colchester Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
