AN investigation has been launched after a woman’s handbag and bracelet were stolen after her vehicle was broken into.

Essex Police have confirmed two items were stolen following a car break in on Dapifer Close, in Abbey Fields, Colchester, on May 31.

The force is now looking for witnesses to come forward with information.

The stolen bag contained a bank card, which the Gazette understands was then used later that morning at a nearby supermarket.

Pictures seen by the Gazette show two hooded figures lingering around the vehicle, captured by a Ring doorbell.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We received a call reporting a handbag and bracelet were taken when a vehicle was broken into in Colchester.

“It was reported it happened in Dapifer Close between 8.30pm on May 31 and 9.30am on June 1.

"A bank card taken from the handbag was then subsequently used.

Speaking on the incident, Shrub End councillor Lyn Barton, added: “I don’t think the amount of crime in Shrub End is different to any other area, I think residents need to be more vigilant to reduce these sorts of things happening.

“I think Shrub End is a safe area and is no different to any other wards, it is unfortunate that these crimes are happening.

“People need to be more vigilant and look out for one another in their constituency, which luckily is what residents at Shrub End already do.

“There seems to be an increase in antisocial behaviour across the borough, though the crime statistics I have seen remain low.”
