A MAN has been fined £768 after he tried to avoid paying £3.30 for a rail ticket to Colchester Town.
Lee Barber, of Hawthorn Avenue, Colchester was travelling the grand distance of 1.2 miles in September last year before Greater Anglia staff found he was travelling from Hythe station without having paid the £3.30 ticket fare.
Magistrates at Suffolk Magistrates Court met in Ipswich last Monday, where they proved the case in the 27-year-old’s absence.
As well as repaying the cost of the £3.30 ticket, Barber was required to pay £765 in fines and costs.
Barber also paid a fine of £642 last year for trying to avoid a ticket from Marks Tey to Braintree.
