A POPULAR BBC TV series is coming to Colchester and producers are looking for people to take part.

BBC One’s Songs of Praise is coming to the city in June for some traditional and modern hymn singing.

Songs of Praise is a religious programme showcases Christian hymns sung in churches of varying denominations from around the UK.

The series was first broadcast in October 1961 and is one of the longest-running series of its genre on television anywhere in the world.

Typically found in the Sunday lunchtime slot shortly after the news, many enjoy settling into their Sunday afternoons to tune in to the show.

Now, Songs of Praise is coming to Colchester Castle Park.

A spokesman said: The ever-popular BBC One programme is coming in June to Colchester Castle Park Bandstand for some traditional and modern hymn singing.

“We’re looking for local, enthusiastic people to join the congregation on Saturday, June 10, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, at the Colchester Castle Park Bandstand. Admission is free.
