FIREFIGHTERS fought to stop flames spreading from a shed fire to a property over the weekend.

Two fire engines from Colchester attended the scene in Mersea Road, Langenhoe, after reports of a fire at an address on Saturday morning.

Mersea Road was partially blocked with firefighters having to direct the traffic as they worked at the scene from 8.30am.

Bosses at the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service have said the fire was caused by faulty electrics and it impacted an outbuilding.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said: “Crews extinguished the fire and recorded that it was caused by faulty electrics.

“The initial call was 8:30am, two fire engines from Colchester attended.”

Berechurch councillor Martyn Warnes witnessed the fire crew tackling the incident went he left his home at about 9.20am.

He said: “The road was blocked when I was heading out and tried to go down the road.

“They had a hose pipe from a fire hydrant further down the road and they were clearly pumping water.”
