A VINTAGE shop in Colchester has introduced a new alteration service with a view of “giving new life to old clothing” and helping combat fast fashion.

Bestdays, located in Eld Lane and run by Steve Hurdle and Jez Dixon, is now home to the Alteration Station which is designed to help extend the lifespan of clothing.

Where customers may have previously chucked their unwanted garments in the bin they can now simply take them into the store to have them repaired or altered.

Everything from a faulty jumper or a pair of jeans which no longer fit to a dress which floats just that little bit too close to the ground can be amended.

Steve, 35, said: “This, for Bestdays, is great new way to expand our product range and service for the good people of Colchester.

“We are proud to be more than just a shop. This is another way we can help people in Colchester stay sustainable, keep their wardrobe looking fresh and keep costs down.”

The thread-weaving wizard behind the shop’s new service is Florence Grace, who will be based in-store throughout the week to help “solve your clothing problems”.

A spokesman for Bestdays added: “The cost of living crisis is upon us and sometimes tough decisions have to be made.

“So, we have launched a new Alteration Station to help you extend the lifespan of that item of clothing that isn't up to your sartorial standards anymore.

“Instead of throwing away, you can instead repair or alter. It’s a way to give new life to old clothing, to extend its time in your wardrobe, and to save you money.”

In addition to their new alteration service, Steve, Jez and and Florence now plan to also introduce a weekly Crochet Club, which will take place on Monday evenings.

The in-store sessions will be open to anyone who would like to learn how to crochet, meet like-minded folk and get creative in a safe environment.

Bestdays and Florence Grace’s Alteration Station is open for drop-offs seven days a week.
