ONE of Colchester’s most vibrant bars is throwing a big birthday bash… and we’re all invited.

Rubix, in Crouch Street, Colchester, is celebrating is fourth birthday this weekend.

Jeremy Durrant opened the bar and nightclub four years ago after spotting a gap in the market.

He explained: “I sold my house and everything I had to do this because there wasn’t anything offering an 80s and 90s retro vibe.”

After an excellent opening ten months which saw constant queues outside the venue, the night-time industry came to a halt as the Covid pandemic hit.

Partygoers have since returned to the club, but its owner recognises that the cost-of-living crisis is continuing to have an impact.

The celebrations will start with a night of free entry on Friday where revellers will be encouraged to let their hair down ahead of the main event on Saturday.

Mr Durrant, whose background is as a local radio DJ, said the weekend will offer a “real big party atmosphere”.
