AN actor from Colchester is set to debut his first play on the stage making the leap after a career treading the boards.

Colin Downer has been a member of the Orpen Players in West Bergholt for 30 years, appearing in most of the groups productions during this period.

But he has now decided to take the step towards writing his own productions.

Actively producing new work, the play group presents three plays a year, in the spring and autumn, with a pantomime at Christmas.

Colin has also appeared in plays at the Head Gate Theatre in Colchester.

His new play, You Had Me from Hello, was inspired by a country and western song of the same name, by Skip Ewing and Kenny Chesney.

The production embellishes the story line, adding a touch of humor, to create a fun, romantic comedy.

Production dates will run from Friday, May 26, at 7.30pm, and Saturday, May 27, from 2.30pm and 7.30pm, at the Orpen Memorial Hall, West Bergholt.
