A TEENAGER was left shaken after a gang of older boys took money and aftershave from his bag at a fun fair.

The youngster was enjoying a day out at Funpark’s fairground on land next to Colne Bank Avenue in Colchester when the incident took place.

He was approached by a group of between ten and 12 older boys who took his bag and rummaged through it at the weekend.

It is understood violence was not threatened or used but the victim was left shaken by the brazen confrontation.

“We need anyone who may have information about this incident to come forward.”

Funpark is a touring fairground which has been based in Colchester since April 22. The organisers are expected to vacate the site by May 14.

Colchester Council’s local economy boss Adam Fox said he hopes the incident doesn’t put other families off attending the fun fair.

“It is really disappointing to hear about the incident and it is a shame that a small minority have ruined that event for some people,” said Mr Fox.

“I hope that people do feel safe going to the fairground there because so many families and young people do enjoy going to it.

“Hopefully the police can look into the incident and make sure that it is a safe event and that they can work with the organisers to deal with what happened.”

Funpark was contacted for comment but did not respond at the time of going to press.
