NATIONAL Highways bosses have said “good progress” is being made on the ongoing A12 reconstruction scheme as work heads into the next stage.

The A12 is being reconstructed between Marks Tey and Stanway (between junctions 25 and 26) with work on the £37million project starting back in October last year.

Work currently sees one lane closed on the Colchester-bound carriageway, with one open and one in contraflow, while lane three is closed on the Londonbound side.

The project is now set to move into the next phase.

A spokesman for National Highways said: “We’re making good progress on our reconstruction of the A12 between junction 25 Marks Tey and junction 26 Stanway and will soon be moving into the next phase of our work when we’ll begin rebuilding lanes two and three of the northbound carriageway.

“This means from Monday, May 15, we’ll be moving our contraflow roadworks to allow us to start working in lanes two and three of the Colchester-bound carriageway for the next phase.

“Before we switch our contraflow to begin the next phase, we’ll be carrying out some repairs to the road surface on sections of the A12 Coolchester-bound and London-bound carriageways.

“Following this, we’ll be carrying out some preparatory work to ensure the new temporary road layout is clear and easy to follow when we move our contraflow roadworks.

“This will involve moving the barriers which separate the traffic and laying temporary road markings.

“For the safety of our workers and all road users, this work will require some overnight closures.”
