AS summer gets ever closer, many people may be looking for a health kick in an attempt to secure that summer bod.

Despite the need to eat less and work on their diet, a great method many enjoy is going to the gym.

Gyms are good for both mental and physical health and are hugely popular for many.

Colchester has a plethora of gyms for residents to get their sweat. Here are some of our readers' favourites.

Leisure World

Leisure World is great for all the family, with plenty going to enjoy the swimming or sports on offer.

The facilities also include a gym, which is hugely popular.

One review on TripAdvisor reads: “It’s a great local facility. Always friendly staff and users.

“Like the gym where even an “old croc” like me feels comfortable and I attend some of the classes. Would definitely recommend.”

Another added: “I would just like to say how much I am enjoying the fitness classes at Leisure World.

“There is a fantastic range of classes to cater for all tastes, and the instructors are totally committed professionals who I cannot praise highly enough.”

Bannatyne

There are two Bannatyne gyms in Colchester, in Whitehall Industrial Estate and Kingsford Park.

The Kingsford Park site had some strong feedback online, with one reviewer saying it was an “excellent place to go”.

They added: "We got there earlier and made use of the excellent facilities available.

“We used the gym, swimming pool, steam room jacuzzi relaxation room and aromatherapy room.”

Another said: “The gym had everything we needed and the facilities at the pool were lovely.”

The one at Whitehall also received strong praise, with someone saying: “Staff were friendly and the facilities are very good with resistance, weights and cardio sections.”

Pump Gyms

Pump Gyms can be found in Grange Way in the south east part of the city.

Google Reviews is littered with plenty of positive feedback for the site.

One said: “It is kept nice and clean plus lots of equipment so never struggle to get on anything.

“Staff have always been friendly and give advice when needed.”

Someone added how they are “originally from Suffolk” but find themselves “wanting to make the journey to Colchester just for this gym”.

Everlast

This gym, in Clarendon Way, has a range of facilities on site, and is popular with many local residents.

Reviewers had some great feedback, with one saying how the gym was “spacious and had a great choice of equipment”, adding how “staff are well informed”.

Another one added: “The equipment is well maintained, and it has clean facilities.”

LWFitness4All

LW has plenty of positive feedback and is another popular gym choice in the area.

The gym in Grange Way has a great choice of facilities, and had raring reviews on Google.

One reviewer said: “This is not just about lifting weights, pumping iron but whole body workout, leading to a healthier mind.”

Another added: “Great place to work out. Gyms just don’t get better than this.”
