AN independent bakery serving specialist produce has opened in Colchester City Centre.
Bella’s Patisserie, which is the latest addition to the city centre’s business scene, welcomed its first customers on Easter Monday with Isabella Maria and her husband, Florin, at the helm.
Mrs Maria is originally from Romania, but since moving to the UK and giving birth to her two children, baking has become the passion she wants to pursue both at home and at work.
The new patisserie is in Sir Isaac’s Walk, with Mrs Maria and her husband having started leasing the building back in 2021.
Mrs Maria, who is 27 and lives in Stanway, said she is looking to provide a sort of delicacy which is not sold by other independent businesses in the city.
She said: “If you don’t educate the market, you won’t get that customer niche – I’m aiming for people who want to try something new.

“It’s a bit of a change for me – I was a stay-at-home mum baking cakes.
“My husband has a sweet tooth so it doesn’t matter how sweet the cakes are,” she added.
Entremets, a multi-layered mousse-based cake, is one of the specialities on offer at the new patisserie.
