A COLCHESTER woman is showcasing her creative glasswork at a new exhibition.
Elena Fleury-Rojo, a flameworker, launched the exhibition after receiving a grant from Arts Council England last year.
“I got to buy new equipment such as a new torch and kiln,” explained Elena.
Elena, who studied glassblowing at Buckinghamshire University, also used the grant to learn a new skill – scientific glassblowing.
She then attended the National Glass Centre, in Sunderland, in December to produce a new collection called A Message in a Bottle, which combines flamework and scientific glassblowing techniques.
The new collection is on display at an exhibition at the Sentinel Gallery, in Chapel Road, Wivenhoe and runs from 10am to 4pm every day, ending this Sunday.

The work of Elena’s friend, Jack Briggs-Miller, who produces close-up photography of rocks and crystals is also showcased at the exhibition.
Elena previously taught at the Wanganui Glass School in New Zealand and set up her own business, Red Flower Glass, in 2011.
She has had several high-profile exhibitions and has also sold her collections internationally.
