A CYCLING group is calling on cyclists, road users and pedestrians to report incidents of dangerous driving after a member experienced several near misses.
A compilation video shared online by the Colchester Cycling Campaign highlights several dangerous incidents members have experienced in recent months.
The videos show a series of scarily close passes, two of which took place on the B1026, near Abberton Reservoir, with another two taking place on Layer Road.
Now the group is calling on anyone experiencing bad driving to report the incident to Essex Police's Extra Eyes initiative which aims to identify bad drivers.
Each driver involved in incidents with cycling campaign members was reported to Essex Police, with punishments varying from warning letters to be compelled to attend driving courses.
A Colchester Cycling Campaign spokesperson said: “Most cyclists will have experienced careless or dangerous driving which is frightening and can put people off cycling.
“Essex Police’s Extra Eyes service is an easy way to report such bad driving.
"The service is simple to use and is very efficient with people often hearing a result about their report the next day.
“Our video shows four close passes experienced by the same cyclist while commuting to and from work in the Colchester area.
“We congratulate Essex Police on the ease of use and efficiency of their service, but we have raised concerns about a lack of consistency in outcomes where some poor driving results in no further action or just a warning letter where we feel that the driving was of such a low standard that at minimum a driver improvement course is merited."
The Extra Eyes campaign urges Essex residents to share information about drink or drug drivers, as well as their concerns with unroadworthy vehicles.
The scheme also advises road users to upload their dashcam footage of poor or dangerous driving incidents, to help Essex Police investigate and prosecute dangerous drivers with the aim of improving the safety of other road users across the county.
Residents can also fill out an online form to raise their concerns, or report any incidents to 101.
