POLICE have released an update as the A12 has been closed following a serious collision towards Colchester.

The crash involved multiple lorries and a car between junction 24, Kelvedon, and junction 25, Marks Tey.

Police say all emergency services are in attendance.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We are currently on the scene of a serious collision involving multiple vehicles on the A12, between junction 24 (Kelvedon) and Junction 25 (Marks Tey) after being called around 4.20pm. 

“We remain at the scene with other emergency services and traffic diversions will be put in place shortly.”

A spokesman later added: "At this stage, we don’t believe those involved have sustained any major injuries.

"The northbound carriageway is expected to remain closed for a number of hours.

"Drivers are being asked to avoid junction 25 and junction 25.
