A MAN was viciously attacked in his Braintree home as cruel crooks carried out a daylight burglary.

Essex Police officers were called to a property in the High Street at about 12.30pm on Monday following reports of an aggravated burglary.

Upon arrival a man was found with injuries to his head, having reportedly been assaulted at his home after men forced their way inside.

Essex Police arrested a man on suspicion of aggravated burglary but have since released him without charge.

Councillor John McKee said: "In 16 years I have been a councillor, this is the first assault and robbery of that kind, that I'm aware of.

"I think it's an isolated incident and I believe residents shouldn't be concerned about it as Braintree is a nice place to live."
